Bus Tales

Most recent Bus Tale.

"LEFT, LEFT - RIGHT, RIGHT"

As a School Bus Driver instructor, for Anne Arundel County, one day a trainee was driving my training bus on a very narrow road, with ditches on either side. I was sitting in the front seat on the door side. When I noticed that the bus seemed to be veering to the right, I asked the trainee to move the bus to the left. She failed to do so and after asking again and still not responding, I stood up and stepped into the stairwell. I again asked her to move to the left saying “ Left, Left ”, but the more I directed her the more she went Right, Right. As I was saying move to your “other left”, I couldn’t help but notice the tree quickly approaching us on the right shoulder. Before I could do anything other than flinch, we made contact with the tree branches, resulting in my mirrors on the right side of the bus left hanging. I had her secure the bus and I took over, driving to our shop to get new mirrors. What a miserable drive that was without mirrors on my right side. Today I laugh about it, but I definitely saw no humor at the time.

UNBELIEVABLE
I usually sit at the school after the Morning Run and feed peanuts to the squirrels. This one day I arrived at the school early and unloaded the students. On this one particular morning, one of the students asked if he could stay on the Bus and rest up before school started. He nodded off. Well then I started feeding some nuts to the Squirrels and fell asleep myself.

A few minutes later I woke up heard noises, turned around, and saw this squirrel sitting on the seat over the student. I told the student to go out the back door. When he jumped up and ran, the squirrel started running around like a hamster on a wheel. The boy went out the back and the squirrel came running to the front. It jumped out the door, then, turned around to look at me as if to say “What Was That”?
